Newt Gingrich's Anti Cap & Trade Ad

With the upcoming vote in the House of Representatives, Newt Gingrich's American Solutions organization is putting out this ad onto the airwaves.

If features the Tacoma Narrows bridge, and reminds me of some of the attack ads on Dion's Carbon Tax from the last election. Lets remind Jim Prentice, Environment Minister, and our the other Conservative members not to go down the Cap and Trade Path.

It also shows that Newt Gingrich is gearing up for the 2012 Presidential Run and mobilizing the 2010 Republican Comeback.

Harper Acts Conservative, by Announcing to bring in Private Sector Management to the Chalk River Facility

As announced in the Globe and Mail, the Harper government plans to bring in private sector management to AECL's nuclear branch. This is great news, to fix this valuable but taxpayer sucking asset. Hopefully new private management can proceed with the necessary upgrades needed to make the facility safe and efficient to produce medical isotopes back into the market place.

Kuudos to our Natural Resources Minister Lisa Raitt for working exceptionally well on this file. Hopefully this can pass through our minority parliament.

More details are listed at CTV.

Good News Harper Cuts Climate Change Research!!!

Hey all,

I know we have been all been worried lately in what has been happening to our "Fiscal" Conservative lately. But despite their lip service to the Greenies they are actually NOT following the Global Warming Dogma.

As is reported in today's Globe and Mail, The Canadian Foundation for Climate and Atmospheric Sciences will NOT receive any more funding from the Government. According to them as they receive no other substantial funding from the private industry, CFACS say they will shut down with their 24 research networks by March 2010. Not other that but NSERC will no longer fund climate change research funding either.

According to the Canadian Association of University Teachers, they are concerned with the intervention that the Conservative Government has acted with respect to scientific funding, particularly with its emphasis with private entrepreneurial partnerships. Depending on the ways which they intervene, there is the responsibility of the Government to spend tax payer's money wisely to prevent the waste of funding JUNK SCIENCE like Climate Change Research.

So for the Conservative Base out there, this Incrementalism, though painful is moving the Conservative argument forward.

CBC's Version of the James Roszko RCMP Killings & Needed Crime Legislation

I'm sure all of you are now familiar with CBC interview of Eric Millett, the "Victim" in the National Anthem Debate. But I hope some of you have been following CBC's coverage of the Barrhead RCMP Killings, which was the worst muliple RCMP killings since the Northwest Rebellion.

In the Fifth Estate's "Collateral Damage", Linden MacIntyre interviewed Shawn Hennessey who plead guilty to Manslaughter, for helping James Roszko kill the four RCMP members. He has consequently been sentanced to 15 years in prison. At issue with the documentary is again its presentation that Shawn was the vitcim in this tragedy, which he does bring up some good points in his defence, however lets remember that:

1. He admitted to dealing dope, which is against the law here in Canada, and he took person risk for himself and his family by associating with Roszko knowing his past in Sexual/Violence Offences.
2. The day before the shooting Roszko showed up to his house with a gun pointed to him, and gave Roszko his hunting rifle, then proceeded to give Roszko a ride back to his property. Now in that situation as his life was theatened that is understandable, except that he DID NOT notify the authorities that Roszko stole his registered rifle and was threatened with a deadly weapon.
3. Even after the killings he FAILED to notify the authorities of his involvement with Rozsko, which lead to a lengthy and unnecessary investiagtion by the RCMP.

So as a citizen at three points in his life he failed to protect the public, which we are all responsible to do.

Now Hennessey did bring up a very important point, and that was his fear of retaliation on his family from Roszko if he alerted the authorities before the incident. This does NOT absolve Hennessey but it illustrates that the Canadian Justive System also failed in this Case:
1. Roszko being a Violent and Sexual Offender probably should NOT have been out in the community.
2. Even if Hennessey alerted the authorities of the threats made against him, well how long would he be behind bars, knowing our weak Justice System.
3. Manijuana laws failed to deter Hennessey from involving himself by dealing dope with Roszko.

Clearly there will need to be a lot of Judicial Reform, before incidents like these will be prevented. As for the CBC they really need to present a more balance look at this situation besides blamming the RCMP for arresting this man.

Why Peter MacKay Should go to Brussells

Peter MacKay should go for 3 reasons:

1) He is still young at age 43, and this position would be excellent opportunity for the man, and it would be entirely likely that he would return to Federal Politics when his position is done. Laurie Hawn, a former Air Force Lieutenant Colonel, and the current Parliament Secretary for the Defense Profile should take his place as Minister of Defence.

2) Nova Scotia needs to bring new talent into the cabinet circle. Besides MacKay there are two other Conservatives Greg Kerr, and Gerald Keddy. The Conservatives need to bring in a region developement minister to get new people into the CPC from Nova Scotia and NL. MacKay riding will most likely go to the CPC as it usually does. But as long as MacKay works in an international profile, he isn't in the region enough to recuit more talent in NS and NL.

3) From the Bussells experience, Peter MacKay will have the International Experience (like Pearson) as a diplomat, so if he choses to run for Party Leadership he will have that appeal to certain people in the electorate, and broaden his appeal accross Canada. It is very difficult for an Atlantic Canadian to get elected at the higher offices, but this may improve this Bachelor's Appeal if the CPC needs to get the Urban vote without sacrificing the rural vote.
